‘Lily’s Light’
ushered to my computer seat
I’m sitting in the dark
surrounded by posts and comment
and bloggers’ pleas to hark
Lily shone a light on me
I caught a glimpse of your reflection
warmed by your fuzzy focussed light
so thanks for the attention
for feedback is incredible
when you’re sitting in the light
that people can see and hear you
and want to read your write
I like to pour myself in here
it’s much bigger than a cup
sweeter than a spoonful of sugar
and nothing to do with luck
for writing is a passionate thing
so personal and protected
to get undressed and bare one’s soul
is much harder than I expected
poetry is all around me now
words marry and get divorced
I feel like a marriage counsellor
with poetic license of course
if you’re not Lily and reading this
and this poem’s not for you
then go and praise someone else
it’s the best thing you could do
