Next Door Neighbour

“Next Door Neighbour”
Colour for his monochrome existence
Flowers sprout against nature in his yard
Whiskey still bubbles in the back shed
Making would be friends drunk
Bananas on rye toast for breakfast
It’s supposed to sound healthy to me
There’s nothing to learn or listen here
When one knows everything
Purveyor of things rusted and forgotten
The wife left yelling years ago
But she’s still in there somewhere
Buried in the overgrown weeds
A boat rots along side the house
Personifying calmer days at sea
When he had a happy home
To bring fish home to "hi honeeeee"
I’m happy there’s a fence between us
Dividing our lives into two
If it ever fell down
I’d leave before... I became him too
